Collaborating with Local Museums and Libraries to Enhance Interdisciplinary Courses

Museums offer unique opportunities to integrate various academic disciplines. This post showcases examples of interdisciplinary courses that collaborate with local museums, from history and anthropology to art and science. The discussion invites educators to share how they’ve worked with museums to enrich course content and how interdisciplinary approaches can foster a deeper understanding of subjects.

Students at the United States Naval Academy’s Chemistry Department visited the museum to test signal flags from the Prinz Eugen which was a part of the atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll. The students conducted several tests and used various equipment to determine the type and amount of radioactivity that was still present on the flags. While there were some traces left, there was not enough radioactive material present to make solid determinations.
